Phil joined
the Royal Well Surgery in Cheltenham in 1993. Prior to coming to Gloucestershire
he spent 6 years as a Medical Officer in the British Army, completing tours of
duty in Iraq, Northern Ireland and Germany. He has special interests in ENT,
Paediatrics, GP Education and Medico-politics and hence his involvement in
the Gloucestershire LMC for over 10 years. Within the organisation he has lead
responsibilities in the areas of Appraisal, QOF, Media Relations and a pastoral
role for GP Members and/or practices having difficulties.
Vice Chair - Dr Ian Bye
Ian came to Gloucester as a 4th year medical student from Bristol
and enjoyed the work and camaraderie at Gloucester Royal Hospital and so choose
to stay in the area and complete his VTS. A period of work in Australia
preceded entering partnership at Locking Hill where he still practises. Ian has
been involved with the LMC since 1993 and now is Vice Chair. Over the years Ian
has gained considerable experience both in primary and secondary care. He was
also involved in the early PCG as a board member and was a founding Director of
a local GP Co-operative. He is involved in the implementation of the National
Stroke Strategy with the PCT and Gloucestershire Hospitals Foundation Trust as
chair of the Stroke Strategy Group. He lives near Cirencester with his wife, two
sons and a lively springer spaniel. He enjoys running and also undertakes
building projects using traditional Cotswold materials
Steve qualified in 1973 from Bristol University Medical School. Since then he did various jobs in Bristol and Cheltenham. He joined his present practice in Hucclecote as GP registrar via an overland trip to India! He was Honorary Secretary of the Gloucestershire branch of the BMA from 1987-1992. He joined the LMC in 2000. He is presently Treasurer and an Executive member. As Treasurer he is responsible for overseeing finance and financial matters, ensuring resources are used efficiently, effectively and ethically. Steve also has medical interests in Occupational Medicine and Acupuncture.
A GP for over 20 years in Drybrook, Forest of Dean and a LMC committee member for several years. He has recently become a member of the Executive Committee and also presents the LMC on the Support Panel for practitioners whose performance is causing concern and on the Countywide Tb/BCG management committee.
Executive member - Dr Steve Alvis
Steve joined the Uley Surgery in
1987 after Vocational training in Buckingham and Milton Keynes. As a rural
practitioner he has an interest in dispensing. Over the years he has been chair
of the Berkeley Hospital Medical Staff Committee and Stroud and Berkeley Vale PC
Group. He is currently a QOF assessor for the PCT and does occasional healthcare
surveys for CHKS Accreditation (part of
Capita). Within the LMC Steve is also part of the Negotiating team.
